The MFT Hands On Training is approximately 3.5 hours long and held at Belimo Americas in Danbury, CT.
Belimo University offers a wide range of Professional Development Hour (PDH) courses which qualify for continuing education credits for Professional Engineers (PE). These courses are taught by our own Regional Application Specialist whose knowledge and skills make the learning process informative and enjoyable. All Belimo University PDH courses have been approved by the appropriate governing bodies in order to be eligible for continuing education credits.
Addressing Low ∆T (1-PDH credit)
Chilled water provided from a central plant is commonly used as a medium for heat transfer within a building’s HVAC system. Lower return water temperatures or low ∆T decreases the efficiency of the entire chilled water system. This condition is known as “Low ∆T Syndrome”. Low ΔT syndrome is the result of the inefficient use of chilled water at the point of consumption. This presentation will provide a review of chilled water system design, for both centralized and district systems and how low ∆T impacts both the chillers and the buildings the chillers are serving. Finally, we will review methods of ∆T correction including a study of a building where “Low ∆T Syndrome” was corrected at the point of water to air heat transfer.
Chilled Water Energy Savings Study - Maximizing Pumping and Chiller Efficiency (1-PDH credit)
This presentation will analyze how correcting low Delta T will eliminate over pumping and costly chiller plant inefficiency. By replacing manual balancing with dynamic pressure independent balancing, low Delta T can be dramatically improved. The Delta T Manager will then balance the coil to its designed Delta T to maximize efficiency. During this session, we will review the MIT Low Delta T Chiller Plant Study and discover how one building reduced its pumping by 50% thus, correcting low Delta T. We will also share the possible savings the end user can realize by correcting low Delta T utilizing our Energy Valve Savings Estimator tool.
Optimizing Performance to Save Energy and Improve Control (1-PDH credit)
The benefits of using pressure independent valves are vast, and technology continues to expand the scope of these benefits. In this course you will learn how pressure independent valve can make you hydronic system more stable, easier to control and less expensive to operate. In addition, you will learn about the pressure independent valve technologies that are available in the marketplace. This discussion begins with simple mechanically regulated PI vales and goes all the way to the electronic pressure independent valve (ePIV) and the Belimo Energy Valve (which is a pressure independent control valve with a fully integrated BTU meter).
Hydronics Control Valve - Specifications, Sizing & Technologies (1-PDH credit)
A 60 minute session reviewing the common rules of thumb for hydronic valve sizing. Topics include a review of common valve types, specifications and applications. Control valve sizing for HVAC applications with emphasis on pipe geometry factors and fluid velocity. Participants should be able to review valve submittals with an eye towards proper application and sizing.
Airside Economizer Modules - Maximize the Efficiency of Packaged HVAC Equipment (1-PDH credit)
This presentation addresses the need for effective airside economizing, specifically in packaged HVAC equipment. Included are analysis of legacy economizers and the associated challenges as well as updates to ASHRAE standards and requirements for airside economizing. Also covered are technical advancements related to newer digital economizers and the requirements for proper set up and installation to maximize economizer hours for the associated climate zones. The four major economizer strategies and modes are addressed. Optional functionality including demand control ventilation, exhaust fan control, alarming as well as fault detection and diagnostics are included as well.
Smoke Damper Actuators (1-PDH credit)
This one hour PDH course features a basic overview of smoke damper actuators and their control. Topics covered include; codes and jurisdictions, smoke control strategies, smoke control dampers & actuators, testing & maintenance, and specifying smoke damper actuators.
Our monthly online webinars take smaller portions of a larger topic and systematically discuss the key takeaways. The online webinars offer an interactive question and answer element allowing for the ability to give, receive and discuss information. All sessions are recorded for future viewing.
